Iranian Official Calls EU Offer ´Worthless´

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Iranian officials Friday dismissed as "worthless" European proposals designed to persuade the Islamic republic to give up its development of the nuclear fuel cycle, the Financial Times reports in an article on its Web site, citing an Iranian news agency.

Hossein Mousavian, spokesman for the Iranian negotiation team, told Iran´s Mehr news agency the proposal was "worthless" because guarantees given on economic and political incentives were "very weak," while the "objective guarantees" that would ensure no diversion to a weapons program "violate" the 2004 Paris suspension agreement as well as the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, according to the FT report.
